Rail Traffic for November and the Week Ending December 3, 2022
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending December 3, 2022, as well as volumes for November 2022. U.S. railroads originated 1,162,736 carloads in November 2022, down 0.9 percent, or 10,437 carloads, from November 2021. U.S. railroads also originated 1,230,291 containers and trailers in November 2022, down 5.4 percent, or 70,107 units, from the same month last year. Combined U.S. carload and intermodal originations in November 2022 were 2,393,027, down 3.3 percent, or 80,544 carloads and intermodal units from November 2021.

Amtrak Advances Innovative B&P Tunnel Replacement Program Procurements
In a major step forward for the B&P Tunnel Replacement Program, Amtrak will be seeking a Delivery Partner to support the successful execution of the project to replace the nearly 150-year-old tunnel. In a Delivery Partner model, the private partner takes on substantial risk-sharing, impacting overall project outcomes. More than two dozen industry leaders responded to Amtrak’s recent Request for Information (RFI), which invited feedback on use of the Delivery Partner model.

MassDOT, Amtrak, CSX Seeking More Than $108 Million for Corridor Improvements Between Springfield and Worcester
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), in partnership with Amtrak, and with support from CSX, has submitted an application for funding from the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) Fiscal Year 2022 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant program. The application seeks more than $108 million for corridor infrastructure projects planned under the “Connecting the Commonwealth: Early Actions for the Inland Route Project.”

The terminal tours return for the first time since taking a hiatus during the pandemic. The VIP tours provide guests with official tour of the historic landmark, offering a unique perspective of one of the most recognizable train terminals in the world.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) today reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending November 26, 2022. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 413,305 carloads and intermodal units, down 4.1 percent compared with the same week last year.

Amtrak’s Winter Park Express Returns
Amtrak’s Amtrak Winter Park Express returns this year, traveling between Denver and the base of the slopes at Winter Park Resort—voted one of North America’s best ski resorts and Colorado’s top adventure town. The new season of the “ski train” will be offered each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from the weekend of Jan.13-15 through the weekend of March 24-26, a total of 33 roundtrips. One-way fares start at just $34, with kids fares (ages 2-12) from $17
