BLET’s Springfield Terminal Members to Vote on Berkshire & Eastern Agreement

On February 14 the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) mailed ballots to approximately 60 Springfield Terminal Railway Company employees concerning planned Berkshire & Eastern Railroad (Genesee & Wyoming subsidiary) takeover of trackage.  As part of CSX’s acquisition of Pan Am Railways, B&E will operate Pan Am Southern under the B&E name. The Pan Am Southern consists of about 425 miles of rail lines and trackage rights routes, including main lines between Ayer, Massachusetts, and Albany, New York, that provide both CSX and Norfolk South Railroad (NS) access to the Boston area via the Patriot Corridor. The BLET had reached a tentative agreement addressing changes in operations resulting from the transaction and applies protective conditions. In addition, the implementing agreement sets forth the process to divide the workforce between Springfield Terminal (ST) and Berkshire and Eastern (B&E).  All the ballots are due by March 10, 2023.
