Progress Rail is showcasing its new EMD® SD70H hybrid locomotive technology at InnoTrans 2026. Built on the proven SD70 platform, the SD70H combines diesel-electric reliability with battery-assisted energy management to reduce fuel consumption, improve operating efficiency, and lower total cost of ownership while integrating seamlessly into existing fleets.

The SD70H leverages battery propulsion, onboard regenerative braking and Talos™ advanced energy management technology to deliver up to 30% fuel savings versus traditional diesel units. The system captures power generated during dynamic braking and redeploys it when additional traction is required, improving fuel efficiency across rail networks.

Designed for real-world service, the SD70H can operate in mixed consists alongside existing locomotives and requires no charging infrastructure, fueling changes or operational modifications. The hybrid system works behind the scenes, allowing railroads to maintain their current practices, crew training programs and maintenance strategies, while advancing their sustainability goals through reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
