Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway Resumes Daily Operation for 2026

Having completed its winter schedule, which expanded this year to include Fridays in January, February, and early March, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway has started spring a few days early. Daily operation has resumed. Guests looking to avoid the larger weekend crowds can now enjoy a 70-minute round trip train ride any day of the week departing the Jim Thorpe station at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm.

While winter will still linger for a few more days calendar-wise, the onset of the daily springtime  schedule brings with it the return of the very popular Open-Air car. This seating option, a staple of the LGSR for over twenty years, features outward-facing bench-style seating and the most wide-open view of the scenery. It is a favorite of photographers who ride the train to capture the scenic beauty of Lehigh Gorge State Park on film. As eastern Pennsylvania has tasted some hints of warmer spring weather  already, the car is sure to resume its mantle as one of the most popular choices in 2026. The gentle breeze felt as the train moves along is a pleasant addition to the ride.

The other returning favorite on the LGSR for the spring is the private caboose. Up to six passengers per trip may enjoy this one-of-a-kind railroad experience. Hauled at the end of the train as it was intended, the caboose offers a unique view of the scenery by allowing guests to stand on the rear platform during their ride. Another component of the caboose experience, popular with children, is the option to ride up in the
cupola. This affords an elevated view of the scenery and of the entire train ahead of it.

Along with the caboose and Open-Air car, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway offers its year-round seating options aboard Standard Coach, Crown Class Coach, and the ever-popular Vista Class Dome Car. On weekends and holidays, the First-Class Lounge Car is added to the train. This diversity of seating options entices guests to visit repeatedly by providing different experiences aboard each car. The LGSR is proud to note that ticket pricing has changed very little in recent years as it strives to offer an affordable family friendly attraction for visitors to historic Jim Thorpe.
